Rise of cognitive computing

Computer science was earlier a reserved field ,it came into existence in engineering in the mid 90 and There were debates on how this can be field of engineering in the initial days.

Today computer science is on the rise ,it's restructuring modules in  other engineering fields to have a applied computer science perspective.


Industry has embraced computers and they have become replacements of the type writer,often a simple data entry job which could still be performed on a type writer today has a desktop replacements ,we should largely thank  IBM ,Microsoft and Apple who wanted this to happen to sell there products during initial days.

The early computer programs made were largely enterprise software or classical office software's or over counter billing programs.

Today the improvisation has bought the same early days computing capability as mobile in the hands of millions , every company needs to build a mobile application along with the web to reach out to its customers.

The next big thing is to make it social now, Cognitive smarter imitating the human brain where computing capabilities will  help us build a smarter society .

Look at some of the buzzwords of emerging technology  today they are either Self driving cars or AI like Watson , Smart cities , Smarter Banks and even Smarter  Retail joints.                                  (Check out the Amazon GO link below).

So what is  changing as we sleep , Steep investments in developed countries with  plentiful resources and a small population are thinking about smarter solutions  !

No ! Even the developing countries with a large population and scarcity of resources also will need smarter solutions to manage them better.

Computing is meant to solve smarter problems today and the classical database storage and a over the Web or Mobile apps alone is  not exciting anymore .

Computing should be able to address the larger problems  like

• How can i manage the crowd at my event ?
• How fast can people meet a doctor or get a advise at home ?
• How can i make payments on international travel without visiting hundred of forex counters ?
• How can i travel home safer ,find my cabby quickly?
• How can I reach my office faster  and my available route's ,can my mobile suggesting me the less traffic routes ? [Surprised to see 2 years after writing this article Google maps actually support this now ]

Most of these problems have already been solved, many companies are now trying to solve next big problem how to sell these solutions ?

How has the governments running the world's woken up to this .
As far as India is concerned we are still with the e governance, not a bad thing as making the government services available over the web is kind-off the first step.

For many government think tanks they  are thinking of how the people can live a smarter life ?
How the government can be part of that , all this data collected can help improve decision making ,
Solve our problems of overspending on  education and healthcare .

Also one day we will be solving the larger problems affecting people more accurately  with predictive analytics or machine learning .

Computing should  focus on solving social challenges. Wait isn't that what Amazon and Google are doing ! wah today there million dollar projects makes sense .
